History & Founders

Founded in 2019 by Drayton Florence, NFL veteran, and Jeff Shuford, Iraq War veteran and nationally syndicated columnist. The initiative was built to reframe the conversation from hiring veterans to investing in them as entrepreneurs and leaders.

Drayton Florence

NFL Veteran & Co-Founder

"We created this observance to ensure veterans are recognized not just for their service, but for their entrepreneurial leadership and economic impact."

Jeff Shuford

Iraq War Veteran & Co-Founder

"The skills service members gain give them a unique perspective for business development. We must better equip entrepreneurial-minded veterans with the tools they need to succeed."

The Registrar at National Day Calendar® officially proclaimed the observance in July 2019, setting it to be observed annually from March 1–7. Since then, it has gained bipartisan support nationwide and has been celebrated by chambers of commerce, legislators, and veteran service organizations.
