Statement from Lonnell McCall II., Junior Spokesperson for National Invest In Veterans Week® (NIVW)
As the Junior Spokesperson for National Invest In Veterans Week® (NIVW), it is my honor to reflect on the incredible legacy Jeff Shuford leaves behind as he officially and fully retires. Having had the privilege of knowing Jeff for nearly a decade, I have witnessed firsthand the remarkable impact of his leadership, dedication, and vision in creating and sustaining a movement that has touched the lives of countless veteran entrepreneurs. Jeff’s retirement marks the culmination of a transformative era for NIVW and the beginning of a new chapter that will continue to build on his legacy.
National Invest In Veterans Week® is not, and has never been, a business. It is a movement—one built on the values of empowerment, service, and community. What makes NIVW so extraordinary is its commitment to being a completely free initiative. Since its founding, no veteran, business partner, or supporter has ever been asked to pay a single penny to participate. Jeff’s mission was not about profit, but about purpose: creating a platform that uplifts and supports veteran entrepreneurs by giving them the tools, recognition, and connections they need to succeed.
Jeff’s accomplishments with NIVW are groundbreaking. One of the most notable achievements came in 2024 when NIVW was officially recognized in the Congressional Record, a historic milestone that underscored the importance of the movement and its impact on the veteran community. This recognition was a testament to Jeff’s tireless efforts to create opportunities for veterans and to elevate their contributions to our nation’s economy. His work has brought together veterans, business leaders, and communities in a shared commitment to invest in those who have served.
Through Jeff’s leadership, NIVW has expanded its reach far beyond its origins, becoming a globally recognized initiative. He built a network that connects veteran entrepreneurs with mentors, resources, and opportunities, fostering an environment where veterans can thrive as leaders and innovators. Every aspect of NIVW reflects Jeff’s belief that veterans deserve more than just gratitude—they deserve tangible support and the chance to achieve their dreams.
Jeff’s decision to retire completely from NIVW demonstrates his confidence in the future of the movement. He has always emphasized that NIVW was bigger than himself, and his departure is a testament to the strength of the foundation he built. Under the leadership of Angel Shuford, the new Vice President and CFO, NIVW is poised for an exciting new chapter. Angel’s focus on ensuring the sustainability and profitability of the movement will allow it to continue growing and reaching more veterans around the world. Her leadership will ensure that NIVW remains true to its mission while exploring new ways to expand its impact.
Jeff’s legacy is one of empowerment and transformation. He has inspired countless veterans to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams, overcome obstacles, and build successful businesses. His work has shown the power of community and the importance of creating a space where people feel valued and supported. Jeff’s influence extends far beyond the veterans he has helped—his leadership has inspired people from all walks of life to believe in themselves and strive for greatness.
On a personal level, Jeff has been a mentor and an inspiration to me for nearly a decade. His unwavering dedication to serving others has shaped how I view leadership and success. Jeff taught me that true leadership is not about personal gain, but about making a difference in the lives of others. His work with NIVW has shown me the importance of giving back and the power of a vision driven by purpose.
As we celebrate everything Jeff has accomplished, we also look forward to the future of National Invest In Veterans Week®. Under Angel’s leadership, the movement will continue to honor the values Jeff instilled while exploring new opportunities to grow and evolve. Jeff’s retirement is a bittersweet moment, but it is also a time to reflect on the extraordinary impact he has made and to celebrate the legacy he leaves behind.
Jeff, thank you for your vision, your passion, and your tireless commitment to empowering veterans. Your work with NIVW has changed countless lives and will continue to inspire others for years to come. Your legacy is a shining example of what it means to lead with purpose and to create something that will endure far beyond your time at the helm.

Junior Spokesperson, National Invest In Veterans Week®
National Invest In Veterans Week Bestows Honorary Title on Jeff Shuford: A Legacy of Service and Symbolic Leadership
National Invest In Veterans Week® is proud to announce that Jeff Shuford has been named Honorary Ambassador of Veterans Affairs, a purely ceremonial title recognizing his remarkable contributions to veteran advocacy, entrepreneurship, and community empowerment. This symbolic role pays tribute to Jeff’s extraordinary impact while honoring his legacy as a veteran and thought leader in ways that are both meaningful and entirely respectful of his personal circumstances.
A Celebration of Leadership and Impact
Jeff Shuford has built a career that bridges innovation, advocacy, and empowerment, particularly for veterans. As a combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, he has firsthand knowledge of the challenges veterans face when transitioning to civilian life. This experience inspired him to co-found National Invest In Veterans Week®, an initiative dedicated to promoting veteran-owned businesses, highlighting their invaluable contributions to the economy, and fostering a greater understanding of veterans’ vital roles in society.
His leadership has been transformative, expanding the reach of National Invest In Veterans Week to 19 U.S. markets and 21 international markets, amplifying the voices of veteran entrepreneurs across the globe. By championing veteran-led businesses, Jeff has not only strengthened communities but also helped redefine how society views veterans—not just as those who served but as leaders, innovators, and builders of the future.
The Honorary Ambassador Title: A Role of Respect, Not Responsibility
The title of Honorary Ambassador of Veterans Affairs is a ceremonial designation that acknowledges Jeff Shuford’s enduring contributions without assigning him any active duties, responsibilities, or obligations. National Invest In Veterans Week carefully designed this honor to ensure that it reflects the spirit of recognition and respect, without imposing any expectations that could be misconstrued as formal employment, work, or volunteerism.
Jeff’s appointment is purely symbolic, crafted to honor his influence and celebrate his legacy in a way that aligns with his unique circumstances and rights. The title is not tied to any operational role or involvement in decision-making, nor does it require Jeff to perform any tasks, represent the organization in official capacities, or take part in its day-to-day activities.
This thoughtful approach ensures that the recognition is meaningful while maintaining the utmost respect for Jeff’s individual circumstances and the broader framework of veteran-related benefits and protections.
A Legacy Rooted in Service
Jeff Shuford’s life has been defined by service—both in the military and beyond. During his time in uniform, Jeff distinguished himself as a soldier in Operation Iraqi Freedom, earning a Combat Action Badge and multiple commendations for his dedication and courage. These experiences shaped his deep commitment to advocating for veterans, particularly in areas such as entrepreneurship, mental health, and community reintegration.
Following his military service, Jeff launched Tech From Vets, a veteran-led technology company that merges the expertise of military and NFL veterans to deliver cutting-edge digital solutions. One of the company’s most notable projects, the Vets 22 app, directly addresses veteran suicide by providing access to mental health resources and peer support networks. This groundbreaking work has saved lives and exemplifies Jeff’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by veterans in innovative and impactful ways.
National Invest In Veterans Week: A Movement, Not a Job
Jeff’s role as the co-founder of National Invest In Veterans Week is another extension of his passion for supporting veterans. However, it is crucial to emphasize that National Invest In Veterans Week is not a formal organization or employer, but rather a grassroots movement that Jeff launched out of a desire to make a difference. The initiative operates as a self-funded platform designed to uplift veteran entrepreneurs and amplify their voices. Jeff’s involvement has always been as a visionary leader and advocate, not as an employee, executive, or worker.
The Honorary Ambassador title further reflects this ethos. It is a symbolic acknowledgment of Jeff’s enduring influence and leadership within the veteran community, not a job or an official position. This ensures that the honor remains entirely consistent with Jeff’s personal circumstances, respecting his rights and the protections afforded to him as a veteran.
A Role Designed for Recognition, Not Work
The honorary title given to Jeff Shuford was carefully crafted to ensure that it aligns with the principles of respect, recognition, and compliance. The term “Honorary Ambassador” was deliberately chosen to convey the ceremonial nature of the role. The title serves as a marker of Jeff’s legacy and his symbolic connection to National Invest In Veterans Week, without implying any active engagement, work-related responsibilities, or formal obligations.
Key aspects of the honorary title include:
No Work-Related Responsibilities: Jeff is not expected to perform any tasks, attend meetings, or engage in any operational aspects of National Invest In Veterans Week. His role is purely symbolic and celebratory.
No Compensation: The title is not tied to any financial remuneration or economic benefit, reinforcing its honorary nature.
No Decision-Making Authority: Jeff does not participate in organizational decision-making, policy formulation, or strategic planning for National Invest In Veterans Week.
Symbolic Leadership: The role exists solely to recognize Jeff’s contributions and to inspire others through his story and legacy.
These parameters ensure that the title remains firmly within the realm of ceremonial recognition, safeguarding Jeff’s individual rights while honoring his impact.
Why Jeff Shuford’s Recognition Matters
National Invest In Veterans Week seeks to shine a spotlight on veterans who have made significant contributions to their communities and the broader society. Jeff Shuford’s story exemplifies the resilience, innovation, and leadership that veterans bring to every aspect of life. By naming him Honorary Ambassador of Veterans Affairs, National Invest In Veterans Week ensures that his legacy is celebrated in a way that reflects the values of service, respect, and community impact. The title serves as a reminder of the profound difference one individual can make, inspiring others to follow in Jeff’s footsteps.
A Thoughtful and Transparent Honor
The decision to bestow the honorary title on Jeff Shuford was made with the utmost care and consideration. National Invest In Veterans Week is deeply committed to honoring veterans in ways that respect their unique circumstances and uphold the principles of fairness, transparency, and integrity. Jeff’s recognition as Honorary Ambassador of Veterans Affairs is a testament to this commitment.
By emphasizing the ceremonial and symbolic nature of the title, National Invest In Veterans Week ensures that the recognition remains consistent with Jeff’s personal rights and circumstances. About National Invest In Veterans Week®
National Invest In Veterans Week® is an initiative dedicated to honoring the contributions of American veterans and their allies. Recognized by Congress, NIVW focuses on supporting aspiring and established veteran business owners, providing them with the resources and recognition they deserve. Held annually from March 1-7, NIVW features a variety of events, activities, and promotions aimed at fostering a supportive environment for veteran entrepreneurs.
The Veteran Population: A Market Overview
As of November 2023, the United States boasts over 18 million living veterans, representing approximately 6% of the country's adult population. However, this number has been steadily declining, having dropped by almost half since 1990. Factors contributing to this decline include a decrease in enlistments and the aging and passing of veterans who served during and after World War II. Projections indicate that by 2050, the veteran population will decrease to approximately 11,858,410.
Despite the declining numbers, the contributions of veterans remain invaluable, and the need to support them is more crucial than ever. NIVW aims to address this need through its comprehensive platform, now made more accessible and efficient with the launch of the PWA.
A Direct Link to NIVW’s Platform
The NIVW PWA serves as a direct link to our platform, enabling users to receive global notifications and experience top-speed upload times. This innovative tool enhances our ability to connect with the veteran community, ensuring they have immediate access to the latest news, events, and resources tailored to their needs.
Global Reach and Local Impact
The launch of the NIVW PWA across numerous platforms underscores our commitment to providing localized support and resources for veterans worldwide. By integrating the PWA into sites like LouisianaVeterans.com, KansasVeterans.com, and many others, we are ensuring that veterans from different regions can easily access relevant information and support tailored to their specific locations.
Seamless User Experience
The user experience with the NIVW PWA is designed to be intuitive and efficient. Upon accessing any of the platforms, users will be prompted to install the PWA with a simple click. Once installed, the PWA behaves like a native app, with a familiar interface and quick access to important features. The lightweight design ensures fast load times and minimal use of device resources, making it accessible even on older or less powerful devices.
Installation and Usage
Installing the NIVW PWA is straightforward and can be done directly from the browser. Users visiting any of the supported platforms will see a prompt to add the app to their home screen. This process bypasses traditional app stores, providing a direct and hassle-free installation experience. Once installed, the PWA functions independently of the browser, offering a seamless and cohesive user experience.
Storage and Privacy
One of the standout features of the PWA is its minimal storage requirement. Unlike traditional apps, which can occupy significant space and require frequent updates, the PWA is lightweight and updates automatically in the background. This makes it an ideal choice for users with limited storage capacity on their devices. Additionally, the PWA is designed with privacy in mind. It does not have access to personal data or device information, ensuring that user privacy is maintained at all times.

National Invest In Veterans Week® (NIVW) is set to begin tomorrow, March 1-7, 2024, in recognition of the contributions made by military veterans who have transitioned into the business world. With over 1.9 million veteran-owned businesses across the U.S., as reported by the SBA’s Office of Advocacy, NIVW continues its mission to empower, promote, and advocate for veteran entrepreneurs. Longtime supporter Barbara Weltman continues to endorse NIVW’s efforts, helping expand the impact of this congressionally honored initiative.
NIVW is proud to showcase the global expansion of its digital infrastructure, now providing veteran-focused resources through a comprehensive network of domains. This expansion includes platforms that serve veterans locally in the U.S. and across the globe, allowing veteran-owned businesses to connect and thrive in their respective regions.
Drayton Florence, former NFL player and co-founder of NIVW, emphasized the importance of these initiatives:
“Veterans possess leadership, discipline, and resilience—all qualities that make them successful in business. National Invest In Veterans Week is about giving them the recognition, support, and tools they need to excel in the civilian world.”
Jeff Shuford, founder of NIVW and nationally syndicated columnist, highlighted the importance of veteran-owned businesses to the global economy:
“Our veterans have served our nation with courage and dedication. Now, through our digital platforms and resources, we are serving them by providing the tools they need to thrive in the entrepreneurial world.”
Shuford draws inspiration from his Grammy Hall of Fame grandfather, Jim Freeman of The Five Satins, who was entered into the Congressional Record for his musical achievements. Shuford shared,
“My grandfather’s journey taught me the value of resilience and perseverance. It’s that same spirit of determination that I see in veteran entrepreneurs today, and I’m proud to build platforms that support them.”
