A $1 Billion Veteran Housing Pledge, and the Veteran Builders Ready to Do the Work

The main point: the Foundation's new money goes mostly to repair, renovation and modular housing. 1,672 SBA-certified veteran firms already do that kind of work, and about 87% of them are service-disabled veteran-owned. The article backs this up with our numbers:

Shrinking base: veteran-owned construction firms fell 8.0% from 2017 to 2020, while other construction firms grew.

Credit: veteran firms that applied for loans were turned down 25% of the time, against 20% for other firms.

Pace: to reach $1 billion by 2032, the Foundation needs to give about a third more each year than it has since 2011.
